There's a Reason I Keep Chasing Finish Lines

Jeff Lang July 29, 2026

Twenty-five years in real estate is the least interesting thing about me. Let me tell you what actually drives me.

You probably would’ve never guessed this. Around 20 years ago, I was featured in the Wall Street Journal. Not for real estate but for running a marathon in Antarctica, along with a few other challenges I was chasing at the time.

That’s a part of my story that I never get to share in my videos, emails, and valuations. You’ve been receiving them for a long time, but I realized you didn't really know me, which made it hard for us to connect.

I'd like to change that because at the end of the day, it’s really all about relationships. So here's a little about me.

You'll usually find me on a trail. I take my dog Charlie to Pulgas Ridge and a few other off-leash spots so he can act like the cattle dog he is. Other times, I'm at Edgewood, hiking or trail running. Those are my happy places.

Challenging myself is just in my DNA. I've hiked Kilimanjaro and Half Dome, done a few Ironmans, and more triathlons and marathons than I can count. A few years back, when I was super fit, I set my sights on a 100-mile ultramarathon. Then my hips gave out, both of them, replaced, so that goal is probably off the table for now. We'll see. But I still want to run a marathon on every continent, and if you've done something like this, I'd love to hear about it.

"It's not the transaction. It's the relationships with friends, colleagues, and clients alike."

I'm also a serial certification chaser. Certified high-performance coach, certified fitness instructor, tennis instructor, nine in-person events with Tony Robbins, and lately, I've gone deep down the AI rabbit hole. Most of it didn't go anywhere. It's just super fun, and hopefully some of it works into my life.

I suppose I should say something about real estate. I've been doing this for 25 years, commercial originally and then residential, the last 15 right here in San Mateo County. I've called some great places home along the way. Connecticut, Boston, Atlanta, San Diego, and even a little spell in Austin before landing on the peninsula for good. If you know someone who needs help outside the Bay Area, I'm well-connected with top agents around the country, and happy to make the referral.

But here's what I care about more than any of the rest of it: the relationships. The true partnerships. Not the transaction, but the relationships with friends, colleagues, and clients alike. I'd genuinely love to grab coffee, swing by your place, or have you come by my office just to talk. No agenda. That's the point.

If you're thinking about your dream home, that's great. But that's not where I want this to land. Tell me what you're actually working toward, even something as crazy as my seven-continent fantasy. Call or text me at 650-766-6412, email me at [email protected], or visit jefflanghomes.com.

He is also a member of the Institute for Luxury Marketing. These help him and his clients outpace the competition by selling at a higher price and getting offers accepted more often. This track record and partnership continue to provide repeat and referral business, the basis for his growing business.
